£10m North East commitment safeguards 250 jobs
A growing North East firm has made a £10 million investment in a new 140,000 sq. ft. plant securing 250 jobs.
MetroMail has moved from its site in Peterlee to a new plant at Foxcover Enterprise Park in Seaham, East Durham.
The firm rejected an option to move south to be closer to its main customers, because of the contribution made to its growth by the local workforce.
Managing Director, Alan Purvis said: “We have a great team here which has backed the management all the way in an ambitious expansion drive which has seen turnover grow from £7 million to £10.5 million in the last few years.
“We didn’t want to lose that level of commitment and so began to search for another local site.”
The new facility is capable of distributing up to a million items of direct mail per day – making it one of the UK’s largest mailing houses.
The company also took the opportunity to make a further investment in equipment on top of the £4 million that has already been spent in the last two years.
Mr Purvis added: “Now that we have the space to do more, we have some exciting plans to move into new areas in the months ahead and I have targeted an increase in turnover of £2 million by the end of 2011.
“More importantly though, this will see us doubling our profitability over a three year period.”
