Berco invests in leadership skills

A MANUFACTURING firm has set out plans to put half of its entire North East workforce through business and leadership training.

A total of 16 members of Spennymoor-based Berko will benefit from the next phase of Berco UK’s training and development commitment, with 12 month courses starting this year.

Working with Bishop Auckland College, Berco UK will put eight of its production and warehouse teams through Institute of Leadership and Management Level 2 course and a further four through Level 3 qualifications to help them to progress into team leadership, line management and beyond.

A further four assembly operators will embark upon the college’s Business Improvement Techniques course, with a number of office staff having done so in the past.Already this year.

Paul Taylor, of the firm, said: “One of the key reasons for moving to the Spennymoor area was the potential to build our workforce with people from the area.

“This has been justified in the quality of people we have been able to employ, as we have built our team up to 33 during the last 18 months.”

Berco makes and distributes tracks for crawler vehicles moved from Middlesborough into a larger site in Spennymoor around three years ago after enjoying rapid growth.
