IT firm nets global deal
A technology firm which specialises in helping clients reduce their carbon footprint while boosting their productivity and efficiency, has landed a lucrative contract with one of the largest broadcasting firms on the planet.
Newcastle-based Aegis IT has signed a £250,000 deal with Turner Broadcasting System – the US corporation, backed by an 11,000-strong workforce, which produces branded content for the likes of CNN, Cartoon Network and TNT.
Aegis will enable Turner to improve the efficiency and decrease the environmental impact of its IT infrastructure that is used to produce programmes, such as the hugely popular children’s cartoon Ben 10, for 53 internationally-broadcasted channels.
The contract is the latest in a string of major deals for Aegis, which lists Sage, G4S and Newcastle College Group among its portfolio of customers and recently expanded into new premises on Newcastle’s Quayside to facilitate its rapid growth.
The consultancy specialises in software that enables clients to maximise the use of their existing investment in hardware and reduce the total costs of operations using virtualisation technology.
It is also the only firm in the North of England with the prestigious accolade of being a virtual desktop accredited partner with international technology empire VMware.
Technical director Dave McPherson said: “We have a particular offering which is designed for the specific needs of media, post-production and broadcasting firms such as Turner, which is very green and efficient.
“It uses significantly less power than traditional methods and is, in effect, 10,000% more efficient in terms of what businesses can get out of their infrastructure.
“We expect further deals in this sector in the coming months as we continue on course to become a £10-a-year enterprise by 2013.”
Virtualisation gives companies the flexibility to handle sudden upsurges in business instantly, without the need to invest in new hardware, while also dramatically reducing their power requirements and CO2 emissions and enabling staff to work remotely from anywhere in the world.
