Security firm locks on to North East opportunities

A Sussex-based security firm has chosen Gateshead as the base for its new regional HQ, which they hope will spearhead a renewed focus on the North East and Scotland.

Onwatch has established an office in Team Valley and appointed a new regional team, led by Chris Cunningham, a well-known senior figure in the North East security sector.

The new team will be responsible for marketing and managing Onwatch’s integrated CCTV monitoring and response systems in the north of England and Scotland.

Peter Gould, managing director of Onwatch plc, said:“We are well established as an innovative and respected provider of security services across the UK, but we have not had a high-profile presence in the North East until now.”

“We looked at a number of options before deciding on Team Valley as our northern base.

Onwatch was one of the first security companies to replace manned guarding with new technology, utilising systems that allow premises to be monitored from all over the world.

The firm allows customers to monitor their own sites via their mobile phones and provides automated recording of number plates to maximise security.

Chris Cunningham, director of services, said: “Having worked at the helm of large security companies for many years, I couldn’t resist the challenge of establishing Onwatch in the region,”
