AMEC awarded £32m support contract

An international engineering firm with a base on Tyneside has been awarded a £32m contract for the extension of the Teesside Gas Processing Plant at Seal Sands in Middlesbrough.

The new contract awarded to AMEC by the Teesside Gas Processing Plant (TGPP) is set to strengthen the company’s market position in the downstream oil and gas industry and drive new growth.

AMEC will start work immediately on the project, with completion scheduled in April 2012.

It will allow the TGPP facility to receive natural gas from operator RWE Dea’s Breagh field, one of the North Sea’s largest recent gas discoveries, which is located approximately 100 kilometres southeast of Teesside.

Once at TGPP, the gas will be processed and then exported via National Grid’s national transmission system to the main areas of demand within the UK, helping to secure the UK’s future energy supply.

“AMEC’s strong safety performance and proven track record in delivering complex asset support projects have been major factors in winning this contract,” said John Pearson, managing director of AMEC’s Europe & West Africa business.

“Our asset support capability is an important part of our service to customers and our Vision 2015 business strategy.”
