Builders merchants looks to a greener future
One of the region’s independent builders’ merchants has invested £400,000 in new fuel efficient vehicles.
Thompson Building Centres have bought the new Volvo HGV wagons, which include the latest technology and they believe this will ensure that they are driven economically.
The new vehicles have also been fitted with an intelligent driving system which monitors a range of factors including fuel consumption.
The information gained is being used to train the drivers in more energy efficient ways of motoring when necessary.
The firm which has centres in Sunderland, Durham, South Shields, Gateshead, Team Valley and Newcastle say it is part of its on-going commitment to replace its fleet with more eco-friendly forms of transportation.
Company Operations Director, Brent Ganley, said:“These new vehicles will be a real asset to the company,”
“Their purchase is part of our on-going plans to ensure our entire fleet of 36 vehicles will eventually be replaced with more eco friendly wagons.
“And we can use the information that is provided by the technology to ensure they are being driven in the most efficient way.”
