NECC event focuses on renewables

Businesses from across the region are being given the opportunity to find out more about the development and challenges in low carbon and renewable technologies at an event later in the month.

The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) has teamed up with Gateshead College to offer an event designed to help grow the North East’s green businesses.

The event will give the region’s businesses the chance to hear from national and international experts about the opportunities that exist in the field.

Speakers include representatives from Smith Electric Vehicle, Narec, One North East, CAD21, G4s, University of Sunderland and Romag, among others.

Cheryl McCarrick, NECC events manager, said: “New and renewable energy represents a significant opportunity for the region, and NECC and Gateshead College have been exploring for some time how we could offer our members opportunities to grow and become involved in this increasingly important and relevant sector.

“There is a huge amount of interest in this sector and vast opportunities for businesses that take advantage of it, so we are looking forward to what we’re sure will be an excellent event.”

The Ultra Low Carbon Conference – Building Capacity in the North East is a free one-day event, taking place at the college’s Baltic Campus near Gateshead Quays, on May 26.

Mick Brophy, managing director of business, innovation and development at Gateshead College, said; “There is so much exciting and innovative work going on in the region around low carbon and renewable technologies.

“I think it’ll be a great event - the speakers are all experts in their fields and will be able to offer valuable insights into the developments and challenges of this fast-moving industry.”
