Newcastle Science City makes major appointment

The Newcastle Science City project has a new man at the helm, following former chief execuitve Peter Arnold’s decision to step down from the role last month.

John Rundle has been appointed as the interim director of Newcastle Science Company Ltd (NSCL) and will start his new role on 14th June 2011.

NSC is a partnership of Newcastle University, One North East and Newcastle City Council aiming to establish Newcastle and the North East as a global leader in science and related industries.

John Rundle will oversee the transition of NSCL during the coming months into a joint partnership between Newcastle University and Newcastle City when One North East funding ends in March 2012.

finance director, Phil Pattison will take on an enhanced role in overseeing the day-to-day delivery of Science City’s programme, including commitments to the ERDF.

John has a strong track record of leading partnerships, most recently as director of The Northern Way. He previously led a review of partnership structures in the Tees Valley and managed the establishment of 1NG, the Tyneside-based city development company. In earlier roles at Government Office North East he headed a range of economic development, policy and European funding projects.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Rundle said “I am delighted to be joining Newcastle Science City and am looking forward to building on the excellent work the team has delivered over the last three years. Their support for new science businesses and the work with local schools and community groups has been recognised as making a real impact on the local economy.”
