Design is key to economic growth
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Design Council have joined forces to decide on the best way to use design to encourage economic growth.
The “Design for Growth” summit will bring together leaders in design, business, policy and education to discuss how good design can help businesses thrive and improve public services.
The design industry in the UK makes a significant contribution to the UK’s economy, employing over 230,000 people.
The conferences comes less than 100 days after the Design Council merged with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment to become an independent charity and also the Government’s advisor on design.
David Willetts, the Universities and Science Minister voiced his support for the important ongoing role which the Design Council plays in putting design at the heart of economic growth.
David said: “The UK has a world class design sector and we need to maintain our role as a global leader with is why we have continued to support the design council by investing £4 million.”
