‘Patent Protection is vital’ say Local Firm
Patent attorneys in Newcastle are celebrating moving into their new offices by hosting a series of breakfast seminars on intellectual property laws.
Murgitroyd & Co decided to organise the event following the release of figures from the European Patent Office, which show that investment in patent protection is on the up.
Juliet Scullion, a Patent Attorney at the firm said: “Patents and trade marks are particularly valuable assets for small and medium sized companies because they can provide additional revenue streams and attract investment.
“It can be costly to overlook the importance of protecting your ideas, or to run into problems by not checking what your competitors’ patents cover.”
During the seminars, lawyers at Murgitroyd will inform SMEs about the types of IP strategy which could attract potential investors, as well as the legislation surrounding new government plans to apply 10 percent corporation tax rates to patent profits.
At the launch event for the seminars and office relocation, Murgitroyd’s will be honouring their Scottish roots by raising a toast to North East innovation with their specially distilled “Murgitroyd Single Highland Malt” whisky – patent protected of course!
