Teesside Engineering firm given National honour

A precision engineering firm in Teesside has been recognised as an example of national engineering excellence by a new government initiative.

Tees Gill Thrusters, a division of Tees Com were one of only 40 businesses in the UK to submit a product to the Made By Britain initiative, designed to showcase the bests of Britain’s manufacturing ingenuity and quality.

Tom Blenkinsop, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, nominated the company, which specialises in bow and stern thrusters for a variety of vessels after he was asked by the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group to name something he was proud of in his constituency.

Sharon Lane, general manager of Tees Components said: “Tees Gill’s thrusters are known and revered the world over and are a credit to the workforce here in North Skelton.

“They are a great example of how British manufacturing can lead the world and we are delighted and proud to support the Government’s Made By Britain project.”

The thruster will now feature alongside the other 39 companies on an interactive online map, and more MPs are now being called to add the successes of their own constituencies to it.
