New Partnership set to boost exports

Manufacturing and engineering companies looking to benefit from the export industry are set for a boost from a new agreement on export promotion.

EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) have signed a memorandum that will help them work together on initiatives and practical support to boost exports to the emerging markets in Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Exporting can be highly beneficial to these industries, and a recent survey by EEF showed that 40 percent of manufacturers make over half of their turnover from the exports market.

It is hoped that the new guidance will make it easier for businesses to gain a foothold in the market overseas, as moving into this area of commerce can demand significant investment from businesses.

EEF Chief Executive Terry Scuoler said: “Exports are the lifeblood of UK manufacturing and, with the prospects for international trade remaining very positive, it is vital for our econimc prospects that we take every opportunity to boost our performance.

“By combinig the expertise of UKTI with EEF’s access to market, companies will be set fair to reap the benefits of the unique expertise to which they will gain access.”

Joint activities will involve seminars to promote peer learning via case studies, as well as promotion of specific UKTI activities suitable for these sectors. There will also be dedicated areas on the EEF and UKTI website to offer support for companies looking into the export market.

Susan Haird, acting chied of UKTI added: “We want to work with as many partners to help get the message through to as many companies as possible about the benefits of exporting.

“Manufacturers that export can achieve a level of growth that would not otherwise be possible: exporting can also help companies develop new products and services. I hope UKTI and the EEF working together can help more companies become more successful abroad.”
