Tees Valley Housing named as part of Scotswood development

Tees Valley Housing has been named as an affordable housing partner for the redevelopment programme in Scotswood.

The £265 million pound scheme will see 350 new houses built in Newcastle in the biggest housing-led redevelopment project in the North East.

Tees Valley Housing. Part of the Fabrick Housing Group, will be responsible for 90 of the homes, and their involvement will be partially funded through the Homes and Communities Agency four-year Affordable Homes programme, which will bring £181 million of investment to the North.

These plans to transform the west end of Newcastle have been forged between Newcastle City Council and developers Barratt, Keepmoat and Yuill homes.

The private and public partners will invest equal amounts of money into the venture, which will create high-quality, eco-friendly family homes with new community facilities.

On joining the programme, Fabrick Chief Executive Alison Thain said: “We are delighted to be part of this fantastic initiative which will radically improve the housing offer on Tyneside and welcome the support that we believe will be offered by the HCA.

“But this is about much more than providing affordable homes. It is about creating a new community with a rich mixture of backgrounds and skills in a striking and sustainable environment.”

The HCA have also committed @250,000 to ensure up to 20 of the homes build next year will qualify for its FirstBuy initiative, which will provide an equity loan for first time buyers of up to 20% of the value of the property, jointly funded by the HCA and NTWDC.

David Mullins, a NTWDC board member, said: “It is great to have Tees Valley Housing on board. Its track record of providing high quality rented and shared ownership homes across the region means we have added another extremely competent partner to the team.”
