What key challenges has your company recently faced?
The biggest challenge we faced over the last financial year has been a combination of re-structuring as a mobile agency and a long term illness for me. I am one of the key drivers of business and growth, and as a partner in the company, having to take nearly 6 months off while the business was transforming itself from a web agency to a mobile-focused agency had a huge impact on revenue and stability.
What is your biggest achievement over the past 12 months?
Overcoming the challenge was our biggest achievement. On a personal level, I have returned to work full-time but we have re-built the company in the space of the last 6 months and have tripled head count and revenues over the past 6 months. There is still a long way to go but we are on the right track.
Re-branding as a mobile agency is the biggest bet we took in the company’s history and I am glad to say this is paying off really well in the first 9 months.
What is your biggest focus for the coming year?
Continuing our triple digit growth and profits is our key focus for the next year. We want to establish ourselves as a big player in the mobile space and we are working hard on building the perfect team.
If you had to choose one top piece of advice for someone just starting out in business, or is currently operating within your industry sector, what would it be?
‘Just do it’ is my constant mantra and will remain so for years. Entrepreneurship is a difficult, risky, and often thankless path. I know people in my personal and professional network who really want to break out of their 9 to 5 job and do something on their own but are worried about the consequences.
If you are truly passionate about something, ignore the critics and take the risk. Once you do that, failure doesn’t seem such a scary idea.
Can you share with us your view of the current landscape of business, in this region or generally and where your organisation sits within it?
As far as the digital sector goes, I personally think we have seen a tremendous recovery. It is being reported that IT and related services is driving the growth figures in the economy and I am not surprised this is the case. Clients are now spending to ensure they create a solid base for the future and there are an increasing amount of businesses springing up in our space. Mobile will definitely be a big business in the future so full-service agencies will face increasing competition from mobile-specialists. We want to be at the forefront of shaping this space and I think we are slowly getting there.
