Specialist muscle treatment produced in the North East goes national

The benefits of a innovative muscle treatment produced in the North East are set to be available nationwide, thanks to an order with Boots the chemist.

Newcastle-based Kinesio Taping UK has trained 200 physiotherapists from every UK Premiership football club in the specialist techniques, which can be used to treat a variety of common aches and pains.

The product was developed by a Japanese chiropractor over 30 years ago, bur has since had its profile boosted by celebrities like David Beckham and Gareth Bale, who have both successfully used the product.

The boots order comes as a massive boost to Kinesio Taping, and the pharmacy chain has already trained up several members of staff to use the product.

MD Kevin Anderson was the first to bring the Japanese technique to the UK in 2007. He commented: “For our pre-cut range, Boots staff have been fully trained on Kinesio Taping’s application and benefits.

“Kinesio-trained practitioners, including physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and sports therapists will also be explaining and demonstrating its uses in store.”

Practitioner Nick Livadas, Senior Physiotherapist at Connect Physical Health’s Physio & Sports Injury Clinic in Newcastle has already seen the benefits of the product in action. He added:

“Unlike other forms of strapping or bandaging, Kinesio Taping gently supports the injury whilst still allowing a full range of movement.

“It’s popular with sporty people as they can continue to be active whilst wearing it and for that reason it’s great for children too.”

The Boots selection, available in larger stores, features back, neck, shoulder, knee, foot and wrist packs from the Kinesio pre-cut range.
