Longbenton regeneration project complete

A £61 million regeneration project in Longbenton which has taken over a decade to complete is finally ready to open its doors to new residents.

Yuill Homes completed the project in partnership with North Tyneside Council, and together they have transformed the area to provide a range of new homes, as well as community and retail facilities.

David Mullins, managing director for Yuill Homes said: “With the support of a range of public, private and voluntary organizations, we have been committed to improving the quality of life for the local community with a comprehensive transformation programme of housing renewal.

“The coordinated approach applied by partners throughout the project has been fundamental to the successful regeneration of Longbenton and has helped to breathe new life into the area for future generations to enjoy.”

The project has transformed the area from a run down housing estate into a desirable place to live, and it is hoped that the new housing will meet the needs and aspirations of the community.

Mayor for North Tyneside Council Linda Arkley added: “ If we look at the estate today compared with the problems faced by the community in the 1990;s its shows what true partnerships between public and private sectors can achieve.“
