Top sustainable businesses named - with none in the UK

The 16 most environmentally friendly firms from around the developing world have been identified in a new report.

The BBC reports that a new study by the World Economic Forum named firms in Costa Rica, Egypt and China as the businesses who were respecting the environment while growing profits at the same time.

The study also highlighted the challenges facing emerging market companies, who are forced to deal with difficulties from substandard infrastructure to weak regulatory regimes.

All businesses named were praised for engaging with stakeholders, and positively influencing their environment.

A representative from the Boston Consulting Group, who co-anchored the scheme commented: “ While demonstrating superior industry performance and operational efficiency, the New Sustainability Champions innovate to overcome the real constraints they face.“

Interestingly, no companies in the UK or Europe were named in the list.
