Sunderland regeneration scheme to create hundreds of jobs.

Hundreds of jobs are set to be created in Sunderland, after a multi million pound regeneration scheme was given the go ahead by planning officials.

Work could start as early as Spring 2012 on the plans to develop the run-down former Jennings site at North Hylton Road,

Verum Victum Ltd will turn the 15,700 sq m derelict site into a food store, drive-through restaurant, shops, office space and other services.

An estimated 250 jobs will result from the £10m development and Verum has praised Sunderland Council, saying it showed “vision” and “foresight.”

Project manager, Roy Kenny, said: “The former Jennings Motor Group site has been an eyesore for many years and our development will not only improve the facilities available to nearby residents but will also create a significant number of full and part-time jobs.

The two-storey development will sit in landscaped grounds, with 186 parking spaces.
