Rising stars of painting and decorating trade celebrated at international event
Crown Paints have shown their support for the new generation of painting and decorating stars, at one of the World’s biggest vocational skills events.
The company was the presenting sponsor of the Painting and Decoration competition at WorldSkills London 2011, an event that involved hundreds of budding UK and overseas tradespeople.
A 43 strong UK team entered the competition, which was just one of 46 vocational skills contests which took place at the event hosted at ExCel in London’s Docklands.
Senior brand manager at Crown, Debbie Orr, said: “WorldSkills was incredible. It was without doubt the largest and most impressive skills competition and careers event we have ever seen in this country, or will ever see again.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been involved as a sponsor, helping to shine a bright light on talented young people from around the world who represent the future.
“It was thrilling to see the standards achieved in the various competitions.”
Crown also helped to run a stand in conjunction with Lambeth College, where they provided information on training opportunities and apprenticeships.
A number of ‘have a go’ areas also allowed young people at the event to get their hands dirty with painting and decorating challenges, designed to stimulate interest in the profession.
High profile guests at the event included Prime Minister David Cameron, Princess Anne, and Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
