This weeks new starters: 7th November 2011

Newcastle Building Society have made two new non-executive appointments to their main board.

Phil Moorhouse and John Morris join with a wealth of shared business and financial knowledge.

NBS’ Chairman, David Holborn, said: “These two board appointments are significant ones for our organisation.

“Their extensive working knowledge of both the business and financial world bolsters the strength of our board even further. They have both excelled in their areas of expertise and we look forward to the support they will bring to the Society’s main board.”

North East film production house, YourFilm, has expanded with the recruitment of a new art director.

Nathan Newman joins the company following the resounding success of a commission to produce a film to educate the public about the economic and human effects of Somali piracy.

Managing director of YourFilm, Matthew Newman, said: “Nathan is an asset to YourFilm and going forward, his artistic talent and technical expertise will serve to strengthen our reputation of producing quality digital film.”

Gateshead based signage company, Jonsigns has taken on a young apprentice.

Leam Mills was recruited following a two week work-experience stint at the firm.

Jonathan Cawthorn, MD at Jonsigns, commented: “This is an initiative we introduced two years ago, by offering work experience to local schools we are able to help young people prepare for the world of work whilst also making them more appealing to employers.”

Building contractor Bowmer and Kirckland have recruited 19-year-old Sharni Younger to their Nelson Street Office.

As administrative assistant, Sharni will support the team as they work on the development of the £150 million Trinity Square development by Spenhill, the regeneration subsidiary of Tesco, in thecentre of Gateshead.

Sharni said: “I am delighted to secure this post with B&K on such an exciting project. To find employment so close to home is fantastic and I am really looking forward to learning and developing in the workplace.”
