Smith Electric receive biggest ever Irish order

Smith Electric vehicles have received an order of 10 electric vehicles from ESB Networks, the largest order ever EV order in Ireland.

ESB Networks, the electricity distributor, ordered a mix of Smith Edison vans and Smith Newton 10 tonne trucks, and have just received the first batch of vehicles.

The vehicles will now be used to reduce ESB’s carbon footprint in the Dublin, Cork Dundalk, Waterford and Portlaoise areas, and will add to the fleet of electric vehicles ESB already own.

As well as respecting the environment, the new vehicles will also save ESB money, as the cost of charging batteries can be as low as £3.00. the vans can drive up to 100 miles on a single charge.

Mr John Seale, Investment manager of ESB Networks Fleet & Equipment commented: “These vans are doing the exact same work that their diesel equivalents can do in urban areas”

Smith Electric vehicles are one of the world’s leading suppliers of all-electric commercial vehicles, and is also the largest supplier of EVs into phase one of the UK Government’s Low Carbon Vehicle Procurement Programme.
