Taxi service to use chip-fat fuelled cars
A London taxi firm has launched a new fleet of vehicles powered by chip-fat.
Greentomatocars has expanded the number of environmentally friendly private hire cars it offers to customers with a set of innovative biodiesel-fuelled MPVs and executive cars.
The company already boasts green credentials with an existing fleet of 200 Toyota Prius, and now aims to cater towards clients who needed larger vehicles, and those seeking a more executive experience.
Hamish Phillips, head of innovation at Greentomatocars, said: “Since we launched five-and-a-half years ago, our fleet has been exclusively comprised of the hybrid Toyota Prius, and unquestionably green choice for people traveling from A to B in London.
“Recent feedback from customers has shown that they needed other options but still wanted to make a consciously green decision when choosing their private hire provider.
“With this in mind, rather than simply bolting on a non-green solution, we wanted to maintain our green identity and biodiesel-fuelled vehicles fit this requirement perfectly.”
Fuel for the new fleet will come from locally-sourced waste vegetable oil, used in the cooking process.
Emissions from the vehicles will be greatly reduced in comparison to vehicles using petrol or diesel, as research has shown that life cycle CO2 emissions are reduced by 60%-90%, when using 100% biodiesel from waste vegetable oil.
The firm has further plans to power staff cars by the clients’ own waste vegetable oil, and is in discussions with a number of organisations in London.
Hamish went on to say: “We, and our clients, find the idea of closed-loop recycling incredibly exciting - giving businesses the option of reducing their emissions by using their own waste vegetable oil to fuel cars for their own staff is a perfect way of enhancing their existing CSR plans whilst keeping their transport decisions consciously green.”
