Homeless charity recognised for diversity and equality efforts

The Cyrenians, the leading homeless charity, have scooped an award for outstanding practice at The North East Equality Awards.

Sponsored by Working Links, the awards is now in its eighth year, and promotes diversity and equality in the workplace, and celebrated good equality practice carried out in the region.

Beating competition from a wide range of public, private and third sector organisations, The Cyrenians were overall winners in the category promoting Equality and Diversity for their ‘Ready for Work’ programme.

Stephen Bell, group chief executive of The Cyrenians, said: “We are very proud to have our efforts to promote equality and diversity throughout The Cyrenians recognised in this way.

Ready for Work offers clients the opportunity to improve their job prospects through pre-employment training, work experience placements with leading UK employers and one to one job coaching with business volunteers.

To date, the programme has been outstandingly successful; during the last year 43 people have been supported into sustainable employment.
