UKTI to support businesses through Bribery Act minefield

UKTI are giving the regions businesses the opportunity to learn more about the Bribery Act at a special seminar later this month.

The event has been coordinated by the UKTI China Team, and will introduce attendees to the new offence of failing to prevent bribery by those working on behalf of businesses, whether they are direct employees or overseas agents.

A number of experts in the field will be speaking at the event, including Chris Fraser, managing director of China Euro Associates and Andrew Swan from Short Richardson and Forth.

Chris will be advising on “red envelope practices” in China, while Andrew will consider how the Act could affect those trading in China and will advise firms on how to assess their own risks and compliancy.

Sonya Roe, UKTI’s Business Development Manager for China, said: “One of the biggest challenges for businesses trading internationally is to understand what their responsibilities are under the new Bribery Act.

“China is now the North East’s ninth most valuable individual export market, but companies that want to succeed in this market – as with any other - need to ensure they stay within the law.

“This event is designed to help our China Networking Club members understand how they can assess their own risks and put systems in place to avoid bribery or corruption taking place.”

The event will be held in Hartlepool on the 30th November.
