David Myers on Newcastle’s newest hotel: Sleeperz

Sleeperz is the latest hotel to open in Newcastle city centre, and Bdaily has been speaking to brand chief executive David Myers ahead of the grand unveiling in January 2012.

David has previously described the brand as the “BMW Mini” of the hotel industry, and is extremely excited to open up the venue in Newcastle after seeing the success of Sleeperz in Cardiff.

“What we offer is consumer convenience, value and style,” he explains. “It is a budget boutique hotel, and while rooms will be priced from only £60, we have invested in high class fixtures and furnishings to give our guests the best possible stay.”

David is equally unperturbed by the fact that he is opening up the new Sleeperz in a city which is home to many well established brands.

“We believe we have a strong product offering which is great value for money and that is what customers are looking for at a time when the price of everything else is shooting up.

“Nonetheless, we do need to acknowledge that it is hard times and while we are confident, we will also be being sensible.

The fact that David has managed to find investment could attributed to the strength of his plans, and the need for a hotel like this in Newcastle.

“We have good investors and good banks, who saw that we had a strong proposition and reacted positively to them.”

David has big plans for Sleeperz, and is currently looking at other UK locations to extend the brand.

“We are hoping to open up in sites in Liverpool, London and Manchester, but for now we are concentrating on establishing the brand in the North East,” says David. “ We hope that by this time next year we will have 70% occupancy rates, and will be the first port of call for business travellers coming to Newcastle.

“There have been lots of new entrants to the hotel market in the area, but we are determined to differentiate ourselves to ensure we can attract customers.”
