Tees Valley housing scheme recieves £6.2 million improvement grant

Tees Valley has received a grant of £6.2 million to restart improvements of properties across the area, originally earmarked for development under the Housing Market Renewal programme.

The grant will be match funded by local authorities, and will now enable the relocation of tenants in 133 households in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and South Bank.

A total of 536 properties will be levelled, and the area will be adapted to provide spaces the community can benefit from.

With the help of Tees Valley Unlimited, the borough councils submitted their bid to the department of Communities and Local Government, and thy will now share a pot of £35.5 million with Merseyside, East Lancashire, North Staffordshire and Hull.

TVU board member and chief executive of Fabrick Housing Group, Alison Thain welcomed the developments.

She commented: “Today’s announcement ends the uncertainty for scores of residents across Tees Valley. They will be relocated to better quality homes within a healthier environment and several pockets of dereliction will be given a new lease of life.

“The funding will have a positive impact on local neighbourhoods by creating strong communities and on the local economy by removing apparent barriers to private sector investment.”

The Councils have now started to engage with residents, who will be moved into new homes in the New Year.
