Northampton receives free legal services clinic
A Northampton pro bono law clinic has been launched by national law firm Shoosmiths, under Access Legal consumer brand.
The Northampton and District Citizens Advice Bureau has been established to provide clients with free legal advice from the Access Legal experts.
It is the result of joint effort between Access Legal and Northampton and District CAB, the University of Northampton Law School and LawWorks, in recognition of the importance of free legal services.
The launch coincided with National Pro Bono week, which highlighted that many people across the UK desperately need legal advice, but cannot afford solicitors’ fees.
Paul Morrison, Partner at Access Legal, said: “We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to be involved with such an excellent cause.
“The opportunity to work alongside well respected and dedicated groups such as the CAB, the University of Northampton Law School, and LawWorks has been fantastic; it’s given us the chance to use our professional knowledge and expertise for the benefit of those in the community who find it hard to otherwise access legal advice.”
Some of the legal services provided by Access Legal’s experts include legal advice on employment disputes, landlord and tenant issues and consumer rights.
Chief executive of the Northampton and Distract CAB, Martin Lord, added: “This is a significant development for us.
“It ushers in what we hope will be a new era of cooperation with the legal community.”
