Kellogg’s ASA Swimtastic Awards reward outstanding non-elite achievements and unsung swimming stars across the country.
Phillip Groom and his sister Jill Groom started SwimNE in 2006 and the company has grown teach over 1500 swimmers every week.
SwimNE is the largest independent SwimSchool in the North East and provides swimming lessons from babies up to adult and includes swimming coaching across Newcastle, Wallsend and Whitley Bay.
Phillip Groom says “When SwimNE started we wanted to encourage children to have fun in the water and enjoy their swimming lessons. The swim school has grown to teach Baby and Toddler swimming with ‘Nemo Swimming’ Nemo Swimming and also masters, open water and triathlon coaching through MVSport (www.MVSport.co.uk). We have a complete pathway of ‘learn to swim’ to participation and onto adult swimming, which we are really proud of.”
Phillip adds - “This award is fantastic recognition to the whole team of teachers who through dedication and enthusiasm provide the best swimming lessons in the North East and I am proud to accept the award on their behalf. The future is very bright for us and we hope we can continue to build upon the success already achieved and continue to improve the swim school to inspire children to enjoy swimming and keep swimming in their lives.”
Katie Brazier, the ASA’s Sponsorship Director, said: “The ASA organises the Kellogg’s ASA Swimtastic Awards because it is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the amazing achievements of people across all levels and areas of our sport.”
The glittering 5th November ‘Oscar-style’ awards ceremony was held for the first time this year at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, one of the best aquatics venues in the UK. Further fireworks lighting up the event also gave the chance for winners to make a splash in the pool with Olympic heroes.
