This week’s top pick

Tynemouth Christmas Market. Sat Dec 3, 12pm-6pm. Late opening shops in the village.

Traders and business in Tynemouth will host the village’s first ever Chistmas festival. The festival will include reindeers, festive music, street panto, refreshments and of course a visit from Father Christmas, who will be setting up residence in his own log cabin in the centre of the village. Stalls with gifts, mulled wine, organic hog roasts and freshly baked mince pies will be on offer, and local school children from Priory Primary School will provide musical entertainment.
The Priory Theatre will show children’s favourite, The Polar Express and the classic It’s A Wonderful Life.

Cinema

Romantics Anonymous - Tyneside Cinema. Sunday Dec 4, 1.30pm; 3.40; 5.35; 8.35. Tickets: £6.95 (before 2pm); £8 (after 2pm).

Comedy in which Isabelle Carré stars as Angélique, a gifted chocolate maker with chronic shyness that prevents her from realising her talents. She meets the boss of a chocolate factory who shares a similar characteristic that threatens his business. The pair must come to terms with their shyness in a charming story.

Exhibitions

Once Upon A Time - Customs House, South Shields. Friday Dec 2, 6-8pm.

The fourth exhibition in a series of ‘knitted’ projects, produced by a group of knitters who have previously exhibited pieces such as ‘a knitted Victorian Christmas’ and a ‘Grand Tour.’ This year’s theme is children’s stories, including Alice in Wonderland, The Gruffalo and Where The Wild Things Are. See knitted pictures, produced by community groups from across South Tyneside.

Theatre

Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune - Stockton Arc. Saturday Dec 3, 7.45pm. Tickets: £8.50; £6.50 concessions.

Terrence McNally’s warm and tender bitter-sweet romantic comedy is the perfect run up to Christmas. It’s a play for anyone searching for, hoping for, or lost in the middle of love. Waitress Frankie, and Chef, Johnny find themselves in bed together, and take the tentative steps towards relationship. Previously a film starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino star.

Music

We Were Promised Jetpacks - The Cluny, Newcastle. Saturday Dec 3, 8pm. Tickets: £7.

Scottish rock outfit, We Were Promised Jetpacks, play atmospheric indie-rock with polished performances that maintain more unrestrained quality. Following successful tours in America and Europe, the four piece bring their ambitious sounds to The Cluny.

Family

Fenwick Window, Newcastle. All weekend, shopping hours.

If you haven’t been yet, take a stroll past the legendary Fenwick’s Christmas window to fuel those festive feelings. A magical half-hour for children and a secret delight for the grown-ups, this year’s window takes a traditional theme with an enchanting musical score.
