Lawyers seal £6.8m deal for Middlesbrough College

Thanks to the efforts of professionals from across the North East, the agreement for a new £6.8 million Sixth Form centre for Middlesbrough College has been finalised.

The new 138,000 sq ft building will be constructed on land formerly belonging to One North East opposite the main College on Dock Street.

Once work is complete, Middlesbrough College will be grated a long lease by the Homes and Communities Agency, the statutory successor to One North East, and will include state of the art sports facilities and a social area.

Experts for the education and property teams at Dickinson Dees law firm were involved in securing the agreement.

John Booth, as associate in the commercial development team at Dickinson Dees advised on the project. He commented“It was a very collaborative effort involving numerous experts from across our firm to provide the rounded advice required to complete this deal.

“Working together with all the parties involved in the development, we were able to bring
the agreement to a successful conclusion.

“The new Sixth Form Centre will be a tremendous addition to Middlesbrough College and we are proud to have been associated with such a worthwhile project.”

The new Middlesbrough College Sixth Form will open in the academic year 2012/13, and will provide students with some of the best facilities in the UK.

Zoe Lewis, Deputy Principal said: “The College is thrilled to see the work start on site and
we look forward to the opening of an academic and sporting centre of excellence, which will
complement our existing state-of-the-art vocational facilities.”

The centre expects to attract a further 300 students into the town, and will create 19 full time posts when it opens.
