North East firm nominated for national manufacturing award
Bishop Auckland based firm, Thorn Lighting have successfully been nominated for a national manufacturing competition.
Made In Britain is organised by the Association of Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG) and showcases the best British manufacturing has to offer.
Helen Goodman, MP for Bishop Auckland, nominated the company for their Menlo3 range, which is designed, manufactured and sold through its purpose built centre in Spennymoor.
Mrs Goodman MP, said: “I am delighted that Thorn Lighting’s nomination for in the Made In Britain contest has been successful.
“The contest, which is organised by the Associate of Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, is an excellent forum to showcase the best British manufacturing has to offer.
“The competition dispels the misconception that we don’t make things in this country anymore, by raising awareness of the number of excellent manufacturing firms across the country.
“Thorn Lighting is an innovative and high skilled manufacturer of electrical products and thoroughly deserves the recognition it has received from the competition. Its commitment to retaining design and manufacturing skills in the local area is also commendable.
“Furthermore their investments in innovative manufacturing processes have enabled them to produce pioneering products that have been integral to the company’s success.”
She went on to say that Thorn’s commitment to energy efficiency environmental sustainability demonstrates that a successful business model can go hand in hand with concern for the environment.
She added: “We do still make things in this country – let’s keep it that way.”
Thorn’s Menlo3 range comes from the expertise of in-house design engineers and skilled manufacturing departments, along with investment in new manufacturing techniques.
Commenting on the range, Mark King, Product Manager, said: “Our research indicated that today’s lighting professionals face such challenges from new lighting guidelines and energy restrictions that lighting design almost becomes a numbers game.
“With Menlo3 we aim to make it easy to comply with the latest standards, so our customers can focus on creating attractive, high quality lighting schemes that enhance the office environment. There is no compromise on light quality or style for efficiency.”
