Wood Group PSN train military recruits

The first phase of Wood Group PSN’s programme to help military personnel into the oil and gas industry has been successfully completed.

The firm has taken on 11 recruits from the Army, Navy and RAF through the help of Re-Engineer, a UK based career conversion programme, developed to help former military personnel transfer their skills.

Ian McKay, global head of operations and maintenance at Wood Group PSN said:

“Completion of this first phase in the Re-Engineer programme is a milestone for the candidates and for Wood Group PSN.

“The course is a unique and structured approach to bridging the skills gap. It is an efficient way of bringing additional skilled technicians into the sector and the strength of our relationship with the ECITB and TTE International ensures the course delivers the right levels of training, competency and understanding to work safely offshore from day one.”

The candidates have all now successfully completed an 8 week intensive training course to provide them with the skills, knowledge and competence to work offshore safely. Each individual received a Vocational Qualification Level 2 on the course, which was developed with the Engineering & Construction Industry Training Board and TTE International Ltd.

The group will now complete a further 18 months of training, assessment and verification offshore on some of Wood Group PSN’s North Sea projects, which will guide them towards their NVQ Level 3.

Re-Engineer now plan to run more similar courses next year for maintenance technicians and production operations technicians, and hope to recruit more armed forces personnel.
