MBE for local Green expert

A North East woman has been awarded a MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for her services to reducing carbon emissions and fuel poverty in social housing.

Sally Hancox, group director of Gentoo Green leads a team of 14 employees who dedicate their time to ensure the Group’s commitment to the sustainability agenda, and constantly develops the business to ensure it makes the most innovations in the renewable sector.

She was one of only seven individuals working in the housing sector named on the list, and recognition of these individuals will once again shine the spotlight on this vitally important agenda.

Expressing her delight at the award, Sally commented:“It is hard to believe I have been nominated for just doing a job I love.

“I still can’t believe it, I am amazed and humbled to receive this great award.

Chief executive of the Gentoo Group Peter Walls could not imagine a more deserving individual for the award.

He added: “We are absolutely delighted that this honour has been given to Sally.

`’Her passion for the environment is inspiring and the changes she has been able to make for people in a relatively short space of time are quite remarkable.

“Her efforts have caused all of our staff and board directors at Gentoo to put sustainability at the very top of our agenda.”

For the past three years Gentoo has been included in the Sunday Times’ Best green Companies list, and has achieved the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.
