TTE reveal new apprenticeship training centre

The refurbishment of the TTE Technical Training Group facilities on Teesside is complete, and is now ready to help more individuals develop vital industry skills.

The new building, named The Dorman Long Building features industry standard equipment, and will be used to train students between the ages of 14-19 about engineering, as well as young people on apprenticeship training programmes.

The facility will also be open to skilled technicians from both the UK and abroad to help them work towards industry-relevant qualifications.

Steve Grant, Managing Director of The TTE Technical Training Group, said: “The newly-refurbished Dorman Long centre really enhances the training provision at TTE for local young people and technicians from industry.

“Its facilities and equipment can be applied to a cross-section of training programmes ranging from giving school pupils an introduction to engineering through to complex up-skilling programmes for the energy and chemical sectors.”

A specialist CompEx facility features in the new building, and will be used for the up-skilling of technicians currently working in the hydrocarbons industry.

The new building will provide an enormous boost the the 600 young people going through various stages of the pre-apprenticeship and advanced apprenticeship training, as well as visiting technicians from the Middle East and West Africa.

The name of the new building is synonymous with North East industry, and TTE’s south bank facility was originally the site of Dorman Long’s training centre.

Steve continued: “I am really pleased with the decision by our trainees to name the building after Dorman Long, which combines the rich industrial heritage with cutting edge technology and training provision we deliver.

“Dorman Long, like TTE, is part of the fabric of Teesside industry and it is good to see our young people have recognised the important role the company has played in establishing the global reputation of the region.”
