Tyne & Wear museums in successful funding bid

Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums are celebrating, after it was announced that their bid for grant funding to Arts Council England for Renaissance was successful.

The bid was chosen out of 29 other eligible applications, requesting a total of £116.4 million. The overall budget for major Renaissance major grants is £20 million.

In the next few weeks, the final amount to be awarded to each organisation fpr 2-12-2015 will be confirmed. The bids were judged against five criteria, which included; examples of excellence in museums, the ability to inspire, sustainability, resilience and innovation, a string and diverse workforce, and the provision of a rich experience for children and young people.

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums is also home to some world class collections, and their 12 venues have played a vital part in shaping the cultural landscape of the region, and this latest funding will enable the group to deliver even more innovative exhibition programming, continue its valuable work with children and young people, and engage with the wider community in exciting way.

Ged Bell, Chair of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums Joint Committee, said: “This is excellent news and we are delighted that this considerable investment from Arts Council is being made in our museums and galleries, recognising the important role they play in the social, cultural and economic make-up of our region.”

Some of the areas Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums will use this Renaissance investment to fund include a programme of innovative exhibitions bringing together regional and national collections as well as exhibitions and activities working with communities.
