Nifco UK unveil new £8.5m facility

A Teesside manufacturing firm is celebrating after it finally recieved the keys to its new £8.5m facility, which will help it grow and create further jobs in the area.

The 130,000 sq ft facility in Eaglescliffe will enable Nifco UK to progress into a new phase of car parts production. The firm is now set to double its number of employees to 300 - almost double the size of its team this time last year.

The company uses plastic injection moulding to produce more than 250,000 parts a day, supplying car brands including Nissan, Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Honda and Toyota.

Managing director Mike Matthews has now recieved the keys, and will now begin preparations to move staff over next month.

He commented: “The move to the new factory represents a very significant step forward for Nifco UK, and we’re delighted to have taken possession of the new building.

“The Yarm Road site has served us extremely well, but the growth we’ve achieved over the last few years has meant that it has become less and less fit for purpose.

“The move, I believe, will help secure the future of operations here in the North East for at least the next 20 years.”

The new plant, which was constructed by Tolent, will help the firm to fulfil their contracts, most recently those established with Nissan and Honda.

John Wood, chief executive of Tolent, said: “We are pleased to have played a part in the Nifco

The new building also represents the comapny’s commitment to Stockton, and will provide the local community with a much-needed jobs boost.

Richard Poundford, head of regeneration and economic development at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “Nifco is a real success story and its continued growth is tremendous
for Stockton.

“It is not only creating jobs for local people in quality manufacturing, its expansion is benefiting local businesses in the supply chain and in the construction industry.

“There is a real buzz in the Borough’s economy at present and Nifco is one of many companies helping to get the worldwide message out that Stockton is a good place for business and manufacturing.”

The new factory will also significantly reduce the firm’s carbon footprint. Naturally Wild, a Guisborough ecology consultancy, was drafted in to help ensure measures were put in place to protect wildlife and the natural environment in and around the site, both during the build and in the future.

Graeme Skinner, director and principal ecologist at Naturally Wild, said: “Nifco’s move to what will be a really cutting edge new factory is great news for the firm and for the people who work there.

“It’s exciting that, after all the hard work, the factory will soon be complete, and, not only will it be fit for purpose for a growing company like Nifco, but it will also allow the firm to operate in a way that is much better for the environment.”
