Local businesswoman named as Capital Enterprise Chair

A local businesswoman has been named as the new chair of Capital for Enterprise Limited, the body which advises the Government on the best way to provide SMEs with financial support.

Lucy Armstrong is currently the chief executive of The Alchemists, who match up experienced entrepreneurs with high growth medium sized businesses to encourage their growth.

She has extensive experience of working with North East manufacturing businesses, and is also a non-executive of a venture capital investment group and angel network.

Commenting on her appointment, Business and Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk said: “I am pleased to announce Lucy Armstrong as the new chair of Capital for Enterprise Limited.

“She brings a breadth of experience from working directly with high growth small companies, business angels and regional funds.

“The finance programmes managed by Capital for Enterprise Limited are vital for supporting new and growing small businesses across the UK, and Lucy’s expertise and insight will ensure these programmes continue to be successful.”

Centre for Enterprise Limited is the largest single investor in UK venture capital, and has total assets and liabilities of £1.1billion under its direct management. When all private sector money is taken into account, they have created financing schemes worth more than £4 billion.
