Gentoo nominated for national innovation award

A local social housing provider has been shortlisted for the category of ‘Most Innovative IT system’ at the 2012 Housing Innovation Awards, recognising a commitment to innovation within the sector.

The Gentoo ICT case management system, Streetwise, was developped in house and allows neighbourhood teams to monitor and tract anti-social behaviour and tenancy breaches effectively. This system helps to combat anti-social behaviour, whilst also ensuring the safety of individuals living within the community.

Using the bespoke ICT software, staff are able to effectively manage their caseloads whilst making faster and more informed decisions about where to best target their resources. Using the system, workers can record and upload detailed information, audit trails and links to GIS mapping and other reporting software.

Michelle Meldrum, Deputy Director said: “By applying innovation and creativity and the expertise of our own staff we not only created a product to be used internally, but by others in the marketplace - supporting others in their efforts when tackling ASB and other tenancy issues.

“As a Group innovation is a key driver of success and to be recognised externally for our innovative approach is a real achievement. We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award.”

Gentoo have also commercialised the product, which is now being used to help other organisations manage anti-social behaviour in their area.

The 2012 Housing Innovation Awards Judges include Sue Roberts, Chair of the National Federation of ALMOs, Phil Morgan, Specialist Consultant on Tenant Involvement, Sophia de Sousa, Chief Executive of The Glass House and Cllr Andrew Johnson, Lead Member for housing in LB Hammersmith and Fulham.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on the 1st March 2012 at The Millennium Gloucester Hotel, London.
