Harrogate Ladies’ College fosters future entrepreneurs

Following the Prime Minister’s calls for women to be better represented in the board room, Harrogate Ladies’ College is celebrating the first successful year of its Business School.

The Business School has become a hub for budding entrepreneurs, introducing young women to the skills needed to develop their inspired ideas.

Since opening in 2010, the centre has offered expert teaching in business courses ranging across Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Psychology.

HLC Business School Director, Judith Grazier, said: “The aim of the Business School is to introduce academic business subjects and promote entrepreneurial initiatives to Sixth Formers.

“Enterprising activity flourishes throughout the entire School, with girls as young as year seven growing in confidence when experiencing enterprising opportunities.

“For me, implementing a hands-on appreciation of business is one of the Business School’s biggest achievements.”

Through initiatives such as the Leeds Enterprise Advisory Programme (LEAP) and team challenges, the girls are given the opportunity to run their own businesses.

A number of established entrepreneurs from the economic region, including Deirdre Bounds, have also visited the School to impart their knowledge.

Deirdre, who started her own successful travel company, commented: ““HLC is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the global economy because of its international connections.

“The Business School shows foresight, acumen and knowledge.”
