Global feather hair extensions craze hits Teesside
A Teesside hair extensions company has reported how the latest fashion trend sweeping the globe for feather hair extensions has led to an overwhelming demand from customers.
Stockton-based Additional Lengths, which is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of hair extensions and associated accessories within the UK, is now creating more than 50 packs of the popular feather extensions daily to keep up with demand.
The craze started in the United States in 2011 thanks to rockstar Steven Tyler, of Aerosmith, who sported the feather style during his role on American Idol as a judge.
Additional Lengths import rooster feathers from America and create unique styles within their retail store, which are ideal for all hair colours. The popularity of the brand’s products has led to sales around the globe, including as far away as Australia and orders from celebrity customers.
Victoria Lynch, Additional Lengths founder, said: “We expected the trend would only last for a few months in 2011 but their popularity has just continued to grow. We are now receiving orders from around the world and are creating more than 50 packs of the extensions on a daily basis just to keep up with demand.
“A number of celebrities have also followed in Steven Tyler’s footsteps and sport the trend now, including our brand ambassador Sam Faiers, of The Only Way is Essex, and X Factor finalist Amelia Lily, who bought some feather extensions from the store in January.”
A product pack includes 10 feathers in total, made up of two bundles of five feathers, and can be attached to hair using micro or silicone rings for a quick in and out option. The feathers are also produced so that they can fit securely using normal hair extension clips.
The natural product, which has a retail price starting from £12.99, can be washed, brushed and styled along with hair and can last up to six months depending on usage and maintenance.
Additional Lengths has a retail store and salon on Stockton High Street as well as an online shop at www.additionallengths.co.uk.
