Leeds City Region launch employment and skills campaign
Leeds City Region LEP Board has launched its employment and skills campaign, which aims to help upskill those out of work.
5-3-1 campaign offers ‘5 things you can do’; ‘3 reasons to do them’ and ‘1 positive out come,’ being the growth of the economy.
The scheme will promote doing more to invest in skills, enhance links with education, offer work placements to an unemployment person, offering an apprenticeship and mentoring a budding entrepreneur.
Private sector members of the Partnership and the LEP Board signed up to the campaign with the ultimate goal of getting 1000 businesses to join them by the end of 2012.
Neil McLean, Chair of the Leeds City Region LEP says: “I am delighted to launch today our first business to business campaign to actively encourage improvements in skills and employment.
“The figures speak for themselves, we need to invest more in people, increase our productivity and help our business grow.
“I would like to invite the city region businesses to join this campaign. There are five things you can choose from and it only takes a small commitment to make a big change.
“For instance, if we increase our employment productivity by 1% point that will result in growing our economy by £1 billion every year. The potential is immense and the time has come to forge ahead.”
LEP Board Member, Stephen Kennedy, who is leading the 5-3-1 campaign, said he was keen to get as many businesses as possible to take action and support the campaign.
He said: “It is a straightforward action campaign and companies can commit to one or more actions that suit their needs.
“If we want our businesses to succeed and our economy to flourish signing up to this campaign is an absolute must.”
