Koru secure £480,000 contract
A local design and building firm has secured a £480,000 contract to renovate a Teesside academy thanks to an investment from NEL Fund Managers.
Koru Property Services will now carry out a number of general refurbishments to the Unity Academy on Ormsby Road, as well as completing an overhaul of the whole ventilation system.
At its peak, the contract will rely on 20 on-site workers, and is expected to be completed by the end of Easter.
Koru Proerty Services have extensive experience in the completion of contracts quickly, from complete rebuilds to minor refurbishments.
Commenting on the contract, Peter Day, construction manager for Koru Property Services said: “The work essentially involves installing a new chiller to the roof, ventilation systems into the kitchens and adding air ventilation passages between every floor, which will improve the flow of natural air around the building.
The contract at Unity Academy follows a series of contracts delivered by Koru Property Services in the Teesside area.
The firm, which employs 40 members of staff, is currently completing a £255,000 contract to convert a presbytery into five self-contained apartments at St Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church on Westbourne Grove in North Ormesby.
The work which is being carried out at the school is the culmination of a three year project which started with a detailed investigating programme which moved on to an engineered solution. Koru were awarded the contract due to their extensive knowledge of projects of this type.
Derek Griffiths, vice principle at the academy said: “As part of the project, we were very keen to reduce energy consumption and reduce our carbon footprint at the Academy, therefore the redesigned solution makes as much use of natural ventilation as possible.
“The Academy is extremely grateful to the DFE and the YPLA for their continued support without which this project would never have happened.
“Koru Property Services were awarded the construction contract following an extensive
procurement process, managed by Turner and Townsend.
“They won the contract on cost, competence and previous project experience in the educational sector.”
