Greater Manchester Green Business Award winners revealed

The winners of the inaugural Greater Manchester Green Business Award have been announced.

Trafford Park manufacturer, EOC UK Limited, scooped the award for Small/Medium Business, presented by Mike Blackburn, Chair of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership and North West Regional Director BT.

Stagecoach Manchester were presented with the award for Large Business, by Charlie Parker, Lead Officer of Greater Manchester Environment Commission and Chief Executive of Oldham Council.

He said: “This was a very competitive category and the judges spent some time making sure they made the right decisions, as this is a new award run by Greater Manchester Chamber of
Commerce.

“Congratulations to the winners who have invested heavily in improving the sustainability of their fleet and are doing their bit to reduce their carbon footprint.

“I would also like to thank all those businesses who made a submission, and ENWORKS, for helping to promote this important area of combining business growth and the green agenda.”

Winners were chosen from a shorlist of 12 organisations from the higher education, IT, manufacturing, professional services, property, retail, tourism and transport sectors.

Clive Memmott, the Chamber’s Chief Executive said: “Our Annual Dinner was a fitting setting
for celebrating some of Greater Manchester’s most forward-thinking businesses.

“Organised with ENWORKS, this new award underlines the Chamber’s commitment to helping businesses convert environmental risks and opportunities into the competitive advantages that will help Greater Manchester to grow and take a lead in the emerging low-carbon economy.”

Mike Blackburn, Chair of the Greater Manchester LEP and North West Regional Director of BT
added that it was rewarding to see Greater Manchester organisations engaging with sustainable practices.

He said: “Judging the awards was both challenging and rewarding. The quality and quantity of entries was very high, which meant a lot of debate took place over each entry.

“I congratulate our two winners and hope their entries will inspire others to emulate their good practices.”

The keynote speaker at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner was Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Green, and guests were entertained after dinner by comedian, Chris Addison.
