Responsive complete £2.5m investment
A North East engineering firm has completed a £2.5 million investment programme in a move which will reinforce their position as a leading supplier to the global oil and gas market.
Responsive Engineering Group have made improvements to its high precision machining division Exact, investing in five new Mazak ‘multi-tasking’ machine tools. The machinery, some of which is the first of its type in the UK, is capable of carrying out high accuracy milling, turning and drilling processes.
To support this investment, the firm is now looking to employ a further 10 CNC operators, as well as a range of project and engineering positions, further expanding the 165-strong workforce based on the Team Valley.
Peter Bernard, managing director the Responsive Engineering Group, said: “This investment is all about meeting the demands of our customers in energy related markets.
“Our core business is the manufacture of mission critical components and assemblies for energy sector applications, including subsea, where the highest product quality standards are applied.
The new machinery will support the production of complex, mission critical components and assemblies used in oilfield exploration and production applications.
Responsive already have a wide range of engineering customers including Cameron, Siemens and Sulzer for whom they manufacture a number of components for ROVs well intervention equipment, drilling products, connection systems and gas turbines.
Mr Bernard continued: “The new investment represents the latest available technology, giving us an exceptional machining capability with improved quality control, reduced product lead times and improved productivity levels.
“This expanded capability will not only help us to continue to meet the rigorous demands of our existing customers, but will also help to drive ourselves up the energy sector supply chain.”
As well as an advanced machining facility, the company also operates specialist divisions for welding, fabrication, laser and water cutting, assembly, testing and pressing activities.
