Black Country LEP welcomes additional funding

The Black Country LEP has welcomed its share of the extra Growing Places Fund, announced in last week’s budget.

Black Country businesses will be boosted by a further £4.7m of the £270m added to the Fund by the government.

While £70m of the extra funds will be directed to London, the rest will be divided between the remaining LEPs.

The new amount will bring the Black Country LEP’s pot to around £14m, for kick-starting stalled developments.

Stewart Towe, chair of the Black Country LEP, said: “This additional money through the Growing Places Fund is excellent news for the Black Country.

“We have already secured nearly £10 million through this fund that will help to kick-start stalled developments in the region.

“The extra funding will again be available for appropriate causes to apply for and we will release details of how to bid for the money in the near future.”

Bids from businesses and developers across the Black Country are being appraised by the LEPs, to determine which projects will gain a share of the funding.

Those who have been successful will be announced in coming weeks, with details of applications for the share of additional funding expected to appear in the near future.
