FES donate to Panya Community Project in Thailand
Global provider of fluid transfer systems, FES International, has made a significant donation to the regeneration of the Panya Project in Chang Mai which helps to promote sustainable living within rural communities in Thailand.
The Panya Project is a voluntary run permaculture, natural building and sustainable living education center in Northern Thailand. The concept of the project is to model an integrally sustainable way of living both physically and socially. A place where farmers, educators and sustainable agriculture advocates can come together for educational support, networking, idea exchange, ethical debate and inspiration.
Based on a 10 acre site of wet/dry tropic land, situated in low hills between conventional local rice and soy farms, the project services the local community, while also providing high quality international permaculture consulting services around the globe.
Originally established in 2007, the earthen buildings are a demonstration of many sustainable eco features such as, humanure composting toilet systems and a medium scale water harvesting system. The project also encompasses production gardens and a diverse food forest, supporting local communities.
“The main building at the site has run the course of its life and is in need of regeneration.” Christian Shearer, Founder of the Panya Project comments.
“With the donation from FES, the project has been able to raise enough money to enable a new build to happen. Construction on the new building will begin in the early months of 2013.
“This will enable the project to continue to grow and fulfill its main aims, providing a self-sufficient and integrated healthy way of life for the local community. Along with this, the education centre itself can continue to host frequent courses, workshops and internships throughout the year, providing knowledge and skills in scientific ecological design, self-sufficiency and carbon farming.”
The new influx of funds from FES International has also supported the production of a film to be made about Panya and Permaculture which will raise awareness to the project, spreading information to the public.
Rob Anderson, Managing Director of FES International said: “I am proud that FES can be associated with the Panya Project so that as a company we can support this worthwhile cause.
“FES conducts a lot of our work in this region and we wanted to give something back. We are all pleased to hear that our donation will be used to help improve the lives of the local community in Chang Mai.”
