National Learn to Play Day. - The Bunker, Sunderland. Saturday March 31. All day.

The Bunker opens its doors, along with thousands of musical instrument shops across the UK, to offer free instrument taster lessons to the general public as part of ‘National Learn to Play Day.’ Free lessons are being offered on a variety of instruments, supported by staff at The Bunker and additional guidance on getting started learning to play music. Based on the first novel in the bestselling ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy by Suzanne Collins, this action adventure is set in a post-apocalyptic North America, divided into 12 districts. Each year, the districts must select two teenagers by lottery to compete in ‘The Hunger Games’: a brutal televised battle to the death.

Watercolor Gems - The Laing. Until June 2012.

Some of the biggest names in British watercolours of the 18th and 19th centuries are included in the Laing’s display from the collection. Watercolours by Thomas Girtin, JMW Turner, John Sell Cotman and David Cox demonstrate the atmospheric effects of light and weather which made British watercolours famous.
