English Heritage Easter Events - Across the North East. All Weekend. Tickets vary.
English Heritage are marking Easter with a series of ‘Fun Trails’ between Friday April 6 and Monday April 9. Events are happening at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, Warkworth Castle and Chesters Roman Fort. Keep the children entertained searching for treats, while the adults can explore the sites in the Spring air.
Music
An evening with The Lake Poets, The Union Choir and Natasha Haws. - The Sage Gateshead. Thursday April 5, 8pm-10.30pm. Tickets: £8
Launch night for the latest single from The Lake Poets, aka Sunderland’s Martin Longstaff. Quickly gathering respect among music critics and his North East music contemporaries, Martin plays tender songs about growing up and his life in the region. Support comes from another hotly-tipped local act The Union Choir; for fans of The National and Belle and Sebastian.
Cinema
This Must Be The Place - Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle. Friday April 6, 6.05pm and 8.35pm. Tickets: £8, £6 concs.
Opening this weekend, This Must Be The Place is a quirky, outsider comedy starring Sean Penn, channelling The Cure’s Robert Smith in his appearance. Penn plays Cheyenne, a reclusive oddball rocker living in Dublin. His father’s serious illness forces him back to the states where he learns of his suffering in Auschwitz at the hands of a former SS Officer, and sets out on a life-altering journey to find the culprit.
Art
Dallas Jax: The Work of Kerry Judson - South Shields Museum and Art Gallery. All weekend. Free admission.
This exhibition features work by South Shields based artist and fashion designer Kerry Judson. It includes icons of pop culture including Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga and Betty Boop, as well as pop culture inspired fashion. The 24-year-old recently founded her firm, Style it Rich, as a designer and fashion label.
Family
A Squash and a Squeeze: sharing stories with Julia - Seven Stories, Ouseburn. All weekend.
Julia Donaldson’s captivating story worlds are brought to life through original artwork and exhibits showing how she wrote modern classics such as The Gruffalo, Princess Mirror-Belle and The Troll. Children and families can explore sensory environments based on the books; climb into the cave with The Cave Baby and meet The Gruffalo, sing along to songs on Julia’s Jukebox or perform a play in our theatre.
Willy Wonka day - The Black Horse, Beamish. Saturday April 7, 12pm-4pm.
To keep families entertained over the Easter break, the Black Horse is hosting a free ‘Willy Wonka’ chocolate-themed event. Visitors can meet Willy Wonka at his chocolate factory stall and there will be fairground rides, along with a hog roast, a children’s fancy dress competition and a golden egg hunt.
Easter Egg Hunting
Onboard Princess Seaways - North Shields. Sunday April 8. Tickets: £15 adults; £8 children.
Kids will burn off plenty of energy as they scour the ship and deck areas for treats that the Easter bunny has left. Once worn out, settle down for some egg decorating, followed by a disco and party games. Prices include a 3 course buffet lunch, entertainment and activities on board the ship.
