Firms sign up to deliver Green Deal
22 companies have met with Climate Change Minister Greg Barker to sign the Government’s Green Deal providers.
The organisations include big business, SMEs and a community group, who will all help to deliver the Green Deal, improving the nation’s homes to become more energy efficient at no upfront cost to the consumer.
Greg Barker said: “The signing of this agreement between government and business pioneers represents a watershed moment in the development of the Green Deal.
“The commitment shown today highlights the opportunity organisations see in the Green Deal from community groups, SMEs to big business which only bodes well for the scheme’s future success.
“We will be working with these organisations to ensure they can fulfil the potential they have demonstrated today and become the first to offer Green Deals.”
Phil Gilbert, Head of Energy Innovation, E.ON said: “Green Deal has the potential to help millions of customers to improve their homes, cut their fuel bills and their carbon emissions, without needing to find the upfront investment.
“This is a green revolution in home improvements and it’s vital that customers have confidence in the improvements and in the companies delivering them.
“This agreement brings together Government and many other players to ensure a full, joined up solution for the launch in October.
“We believe that by working together under this framework, we can better deliver excellent customer service for those customers and help them get the maximum benefit from the very beginning.”
Among the other organisations to sign, was North East property group, Gentoo, which recently became the first landlord to join the Green Deal Finance Company.
Sally Hancox, director at Gentoo Group, said: “Gentoo believes that the Green Deal is a great way to take forward the carbon and fuel poverty challenges facing the UK.
“The principles of the Green Deal are sound and we believe that social housing can play a great part. We are happy to be part of this pioneers group to assist in developing robust systems that can ensure smooth delivery when the Green Deal goes live.
“It’s vital that we get the finer detail of the Green Deal right before it goes live in order to deliver warmer homes for our customers while simultaneously tackling fuel poverty and carbon reduction.”
