BP announce two Carbon Offset schemes.
BP have announced two schemes to offset carbon emissions as part of BP’s not-for-profit Target Neutral Scheme.
The scheme is a carbon management program that aims to positively influence people to ‘reduce, replace and neutralise their carbon emissions from transport’.
The first scheme is a partnership with FedEX and their Envelope shipping program.
FedEX will calculate how much carbon dioxide they release into the atmosphere through transporting the envelopes and then each year FedEX will then offset their carbon footprint through purchasing carbonoffsets from Bp Target Neutral Scheme.
Andrea Abrahams the Global Director of BP’s Target Neutral scheme said of the scheme “This is a milestone agreement between BP Target Neutral and FedEX, it is one of many examples in which businesses throughout the world can play their part in reducing impact of carbon emissions on the planet.”
The second scheme is through BP’s work as the official Carbon Offset Partner for the Olympics.
BP is aiming to become world record holders in their own right. They are encouraging a record number of individuals who have tickets and are going to London 2012 to sign up with BP Carbon Neutral scheme and offset the carbon that they will be emitting though travelling to the games.
There will be no cost to any ticket holders taking part in the scheme, as BP will be covering all the costs.
Some of the schemes that will be supported through BP Target Neutral are a biogas farm, a reforestation project and a landfill gas collection system.
BP aim as part of these schemes to encourage us all to consider our own impact on the environment and how we can reduce our carbon emissions and when we can’t reduce them, to offset them so that there is less carbon being released into the atmosphere.
